It’s no secret that images can pack a punch.  Pictures can send a powerful message.   In this, a punch that makes it appear American sailors are surrendering to Iran.  That’s even if you see Iran as an enemy and are skeptical about anything they say, do, or show.  Yes, this incident raises many questions too early to answer here.  They include why can’t sailors defend themselves let alone apologize?

As distasteful as we might find the video clip, which I edited from footage distributed by Iran, it shows savvy messaging.

You’ll see my brief comments on the bottom of the screen of the video.  After the brief “apology” soundbite, the rest of the video is silent.  But it certainly makes a bold statement about a country wanting to flex its muscle, showing American weakness and that country’s dominance in this instance.  At least in this situation before Iran released the Americans.

You’ll also note the “Checklist” at the end.  You don’t need narration by the Iran government to suggest “We have your manuals.  We learned a lot from them and from your technology.”

This is a unique situation and disgusting for Americans,.  But hopefully it reminds us how loudly a few seconds of images can speak when you want to communicate a message.  A bold message.

Pictures Can Send a Powerful Message:  Takeaway

I don’t have a long list of takeaways on this.  But one idea is to review your picture and video library, asking yourself:  “If my audience saw just one or two images of my service or product, what would communicate the most powerful, persuasive message?
