Smart, Cheap, and Delicious Video Marketing

Sometimes fast and cheap marketing solutions can serve you well.  This is an example.

I’ve been suggesting to small clients with almost no budget to use their phone cameras to capture stories about their business.  Yes, great video, audio, and production values are preferable.  But if you can’t afford that, you don’t have to throw up your hands.

Linda Udell Zakheim, a distant cousin of mine, owns a popular ice cream parlor in Dania Beach, Florida.  Jaxsons, http://jaxsonsicecream.com, is a few minutes’ drive south of Ft. Lauderdale.  It’s South Florida’s Favorite Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Parlour and Restaurant.

Smart, Cheap, and Delicious Video Marketing

When I saw Linda last, I mentioned in passing the value of using a cell phone to capture stories on video.  What Linda posted on Facebook impressed me:

  • She used her phone to capture on video reactions of a few customers to an inventive ice cream dish.
  • She built suspense in the video because you could see the customers taste the new dish.  You wondered “Will they like it?”
  • Linda’s questions showed the Jaxsons’ brand commitment to invention.  That means not resting on the successful ice cream parlor’s laurels.

You can quibble with the quality of the video and audio, but the strategy is smart.  It’s marketing that comes across as engaging content.

How to make it even better?

Smart, Cheap, and Delicious Video Marketing:  Takeaways

  • Frame horizontally rather than vertically.  That works best for social media.
  • Zoom with your feet to get closer to the person who’s talking or to show what they’re talking about.
  • Getting closer will also make the audio easier to understand — especially in a busy area like a restaurant.

Here’s what Linda posted on Facebook along with the video accompanying her comments:

I invented a new twist on s’mores!!
Jaxson’s home made waffles folded aim half and filled with chocolate chips, graham crackers ,marshmallows , vanilla ice cream, topped with hot fudge marshmallows topping whipped cream and finished with a sprinkle of graham cracker crumbs!! We hope to launch it this winter! Tell me what you think!!
I love my job!!
